Type Persian with English letters
Finglish (also called Pinglish) is Persian written with Latin letters, like salam for سلام. Here you can type that way and get Persian text the moment you type it — no Persian keyboard, no app to install and no sign-up.
Type each word the way it sounds, using Latin letters. A few Persian suggestions appear under the word: press Space to take the first one, or a number to pick another. Different spellings work too: slm and salaam both give سلام.
How it works
- Type a word in Latin letters, for example mersi.
- Choose one of the suggestions under the word with the arrow keys or a number from 1 to 9.
- Space confirms the word and adds a space. When you are done, press Copy and paste the text anywhere.
Examples
| You type | First suggestion |
|---|---|
salam | سلام |
slm | سلام |
khobi | خوبی |
chetori | چطوری |
mamnoon | ممنون |

mikham | میخوام |
khoshhal | خوشحال |
ketabhayeman | کتابهایمان |
Keys
- Space Enter
- Confirms the highlighted word and adds a space

- 0
- Writes the text in English: exactly what you typed, with the same capitals — the last row of the list (and adds a space)
- @ . - /
- Signs stay inside the word (for e-mails and links): type it, then press Space or 0. Setting: “Only Space confirms a word”
- ↓ ↑
- Move between suggestions (Tab and → ← work too)

Frequently asked questions
What are Finglish and Pinglish?
Finglish (also called Pinglish) is Persian written with Latin letters, like salam for سلام. This tool turns what you type in Latin letters into Persian script as you type, and shows a few suggestions to choose from.
How do I type Persian with English letters?
Type the word in the box the way it sounds, for example mersi. Persian suggestions appear under the word; press Space to take the first one, or a number from 1 to 9 to pick another. Different spellings work too: slm and salaam both give سلام.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free and needs no sign-up or account.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser and the page makes no request to send your text. Your text, and what the tool learns from your choices, is stored only in your own browser.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has fully loaded, typing and converting need no internet connection.
How do I type a half-space (ZWNJ)?
Press Shift+Space. For example type mi, press Shift+Space, then type khaham to get «میخواهم». A setting can also add half-spaces automatically.
How do I write English in the middle of Persian text?
The last row of the suggestion list is exactly what you typed. Press 0 to write it with the same capital and small letters; e-mail addresses and links are written the same way.
Is there a Mac or Windows version?
There is a Finglish keyboard for Mac that works in every app: use the Download button at the top of the page (macOS 26 or later). A Windows version is coming soon.
How accurate is it?
On an independent test set of chat-style words, the first suggestion was right about 92% of the time, and the right word was among the first five suggestions more than 98% of the time. Your results may differ a little.
Is it open source?
Yes. The program is open source and released under the GNU AGPL-3.0. The full source (website, conversion engine and Mac keyboard) is on GitHub.
Is this an alternative to Google Input Tools?
Finglish is an independent project and is not affiliated with Google. It does the same job as Google Input Tools: it turns Latin letters typed phonetically into Persian script. The difference is where the work happens. Online tools such as Google Input Tools get their suggestions from a server, which means what you type travels over the internet; Finglish converts on your own device, in your browser or in the Mac keyboard, so nothing you type is sent anywhere, and it works offline once the page has loaded.
